Sahrom Ahmad, 58, from Penang flew all the way to the United Kingdom to see his daughter graduate from the University of Loughborough.

His daughter, Nur Amalina, 28, was to graduate with an MSc in International Management on Dec 17.

However, things took a tragic turn when Sahrom suffered a stroke just a few hours after touch down and had to be rushed to the Charing Cross Hospital.

He underwent an immediate brain hemorrhage and emergency surgery, raking up a hospital bill of RM367,000.

According to his wife, Salham Semail, 56, the family had purchased travel insurance with a RM300,000 coverage.

However, according to the insurance policy, the company will only pay for repatriation if the policy holder is the victim of an accident.

Additionally, the policy states that the family has to pay for the expenses first and claim back from the company later.

According to reports, the family will not be able to raise that kind of money even if they pool all their savings together.

“We are negotiating with the insurance company to pay for the repatriation. We will need to pay for the flight with medical equipment and a medical team to accompany my husband,” she said adding that they will appeal for donations to settle the medical bills.

At the moment, after the surgery, there have been some eye movement and Sahrom is undergoing dialysis three times a week. He is still semi-conscious.

Johor Permaisuri Raja Zarith Sofiah also highlighted the campaign on her personal Facebook page, saying, "Please help bring him home to Malaysia. I've donated. It doesn't matter how little or how much you can donate - even RM10 will make a difference."

So far, appeals had been made through social media such as Twitter, Facebook and to date, they have only collected about RM12,000 through a network of friends and relatives.

The family has also made appeals through Facebook, Twitter, and most recently, through crowdfunding platform GoFundMe.

For those who want to help out, donations can also be made directly to Salmah's bank account:
