What would you do if your 11-year-old daughter or little sister was bullied by their friends in school?
One of parents’ nightmares is to find out that their children are not safe in school due to bullying.
However, with the changes in technology, bullying is not only happening at school but also at home now through phone messages.
In a recent viral tweet, a Standard 5 girl’s voice notes were screen recorded, showing her verbally threatening her victim.
In the voice notes, she accuses the victim of trying to steal her boyfriend.
She was also using the word stupid to provoke the victim.
Listen to the viral voice notes:
“Are you complaining sayang? Pity you.”
“If you dare, let’s meet face to face.”
“You probably didn’t get enough affection. That’s why you’re stealing other people’s boyfriend. How sad!”
“What’s with the blue ticks? If you dare to touch my boyfriend, then you should be brave enough to face me.”
Some Malaysians have responded to the viral tweet by saying:
The tweet has now reached more than 10,000 retweets and 6,000 likes.
Although some Malaysians may find this hilarious, bullying is the number one concern for children.
Adults may feel this is something to laugh about but for an 11-year-old girl who received this kind of threatening voice notes, she may feel terrified.
Unicef Malaysia said almost seven out of 10 Malaysian students under 18, are worried about being bullied by their peers.
It seems like the government needs to come up with a better systematic approach to end bullying in schools.
Should the government create heavier punishment for bullies?
