The government has decided to abolish toll charges gradually and in phases, in line with Pakatan Harapan's (PH) general election pledge to the people.

There would be a 30% discount during non-peak hours and toll free access between 11pm and 5am.

While it is good news to the majority of people, a few are of the opinion that the initiative will create more harm.

For example, a Facebook user claims the free toll will only benefit prostitutes and people for go to night clubs.

MCA secretary-general Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun also questioned if the federal government's plan to remove toll charges for selected highways between 11pm and 5am would result in increased street racing activities.

"Everyone knows that people are asleep at this time and most road users will not benefit.

"In fact, street racers are most active at night. Will the toll-free passage during such hours encourage them?" she asked.

However, in actual fact, many will benefit from this move.
