When it comes to helping those in need, there are so many ways to do so.

Well now, one of the newest ways you can do it is by making a donation at the rice ATM.

The rice ATM is still new in Malaysia but it surely is beneficial for the needy.

By donating even a small amount at the rice ATM, the rice supply will continue and asnaf will not have to worry about running out of it.

This is indeed a good effort by the government.

“Recently the first rice ATM machine was installed at Al-Akram Mosque in Datuk Keramat,” said Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department (Jawi) director Mohd Ajib Ismail.

Ajib said 10 needy folks in the Datuk Keramat area received a smart card each for the ATM machines, enabling them to receive 2kg of rice weekly.

The RM19,000 ATM machine is a first in the country and has two functions, namely to dispense rice and also has a donation box to receive funds from the public.

Jawi is hoping to install rice ATM machines at 85 mosques and surau in Kuala Lumpur.

He said this effort will help more than 20,000 needy people.

After receiving positive feedback from the community, Jawi's  proposal to install the rice ATMs will be discussed at a conference for the Federal Territories Mosque committees next month.
