Mountain of trash at Mount Kinabalu

It’s not rocket science to show some kind of respect towards the place you visit.
While it is understandable that travellers want to do tons of things during their trips but that does not mean that you disrespect a place.
At Mount Kinabalu, it is not just about respect, it is also about the appreciation of its history and legends of the mountain as a sacred place.
So, what’s going on at the top of Mount Kinabalu?
Recently, a Facebook user named Wilson Ls Thaddeus showed his frustration towards disrespectful people who climbed the mountain but left behind papers with their names on it.
In his post, he said:
According to Wilson, some climbers have been writing their names on pieces of paper for their photos.
It seems like this has become a trend over the last couple of years. It is totally cool if climbers want to do this, no objection at all. But, what’s wrong about it is that instead of taking these papers back with them, they leave them scattered all over the mountain!
Wilson is absolutely right when he said: “Don’t just simply leave it up here. To everyone out there, if you guys plan to scale the mountain, please don’t do this. What goes up, have to go down. Take nothing but photographs, keep nothing but memories, leave nothing but footprints.”
Imagine if every climber leaves trash there, the consequences will be tremendous and soon enough, the mountain will be polluted with trash.
Many netizens agreed with Wilson, here are some of the comments:
