Tony Fernandes deletes FB account with more than 670k followers
By John Isaac
Over the weekend, AirAsia group CEO, Tan Sri Tony Fernandes deleted his Facebook account which had more than 670,000 followers.
The reason, according to him was because of the amount of "hate" which was being transmitted on social media, following the deadly terrorist attack on a mosque in Christchurch, New Zealand.
The horrific act was live streamed on Facebook for 17 minutes.
While acknowledging that Facebook was a good platform for communication, the incident was too much for him to take along with other issues.
He said Facebook could have done more to stop some of this.
"I myself have been a victim of so many fake bitcoin and other stories.
"17 minutes of a live stream of killing and hate! Its need to clean up and not just think of financials," he said.
Following viral videos of the incident, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) had also warned against sharing the video and that it was an offence to do so.
Do you guys think what he did was the right move?
